What's the biggest mistake businesses make when hiring a digital agency?
There are so many digital agencies offering SEO, PPC, and social media services that it’s difficult to know which one to trust. In your experience, what are the most common mistakes businesses make when hiring a digital agency?

I completely agree with what Mathew said.
In my view, the biggest mistake businesses make when hiring a digital agency is expecting immediate results without understanding the time required for digital marketing to work effectively.
Many companies sign up with an agency and expect top Google rankings, a flood of leads, or a dramatic increase in sales within a few weeks. While some channels like PPC can generate quicker results, strategies such as SEO, content marketing, and brand building require consistency and patience.
Another issue is hiring an agency based on promises rather than proven processes. If an agency guarantees #1 rankings or unrealistic growth figures, that should raise concerns. Reputable agencies typically focus on strategy, measurable KPIs, and sustainable growth rather than making bold promises.
I've also noticed that some businesses hand everything over to the agency and become completely disconnected from the process. The most successful campaigns usually happen when the business and agency collaborate closely. The business understands its customers and industry, while the agency brings marketing expertise. Combining those strengths often produces the best outcomes.
Ultimately, I believe businesses should choose an agency based on transparency, communication, and proven experience, not just flashy sales pitches or unrealistic guarantees. A good digital agency should act as a long-term growth partner, not simply a vendor.
