How to submit websites to ChatGPT and get indexed?

I’m trying to understand how websites appear in AI tools like ChatGPT. Is there a way to submit a website or make sure it gets discovered and indexed by AI systems?

There’s no way to “submit” a website to ChatGPT or similar AI tools. In my experience, getting visibility here is simply an extension of doing SEO properly.

Here’s how I approach it:

  • Make sure the site is fully indexed first
If the pages aren’t in Google or Bing, they won’t show up anywhere else. Always verify indexing through Search Console and fix any crawl issues early.
  • Focus on clear, intent-driven content
Don’t write to impress, write to answer. Pages that directly solve a query, with clean headings and structure, tend to perform better across the board.
  • Build topical authority, not isolated pages
Instead of publishing random articles, create content clusters. A strong pillar page supported by related content sends a clear signal about what the site stands for.
  • Prioritize quality backlinks
I’ve seen time and again that links from relevant, trusted sites make a difference. They help establish credibility and improve overall visibility.
  • Keep the technical side clean
Fast pages, mobile optimization, proper internal linking, these aren’t optional. They make it easier for systems to crawl and understand the site.
  • Expand presence beyond the website
Mentions on forums, niche sites, and directories help reinforce authority. The more consistent the footprint, the better.
  • Regularly update content
Refresh pages to keep them relevant. Stale content tends to fade quickly.

In short, don’t try to “submit” the site anywhere. Focus on building authority, clarity, and consistency, and that’s what gets results.

I have submitted my website to ChatGPT. Based on my experience, if we want our website to be discoverable by ChatGPT, the first step is to ensure it’s properly indexed by Bing, since ChatGPT relies on Bing’s search results. We also focus on creating high-quality, conversational content that answers questions clearly, and we make sure the OAI-SearchBot isn’t blocked in our robots.txt so it can crawl our site. I usually add my site to Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure it can be found, submit my XML sitemap so all pages are crawled, and sometimes create an llms.txt file in the root directory to highlight the most important pages for AI. I structure my content with clear headers, FAQs, and short, natural-language that directly address questions. Also implement schema markup wherever possible to give context to my content, and I focus on building authority by creating valuable content and earning quality backlinks, which increases the likelihood that my site will be recognized and trusted by AI sources.

I agree with what Akhil mentioned. From my experience as well, websites cannot be directly submitted to ChatGPT for indexing. ChatGPT does not maintain its own website index like traditional search engines. Instead, it relies on publicly available information and content that is already discoverable on the web. So, it’s important to ensure the website is properly indexed by search engines through tools like Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Once the site is publicly accessible and well-indexed, it becomes more likely to be discovered and referenced by AI-powered platforms over time.

Many people, especially business entrepreneurs, top-level management teams, and SEO professionals, are asking this question these days. I will explain it in simple words so that even a non-technical person can understand.

From my 5+ years of experience in SEO, I can say that you cannot directly submit a website to ChatGPT for indexing. What actually works is making your website easily discoverable on the web for search engine crawlers. In my work pattern, I usually start by ensuring the site is crawlable, which means that search engine bots can access and read the website's content, and I submit the sitemap through Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools so that search engine bots can access and read the website's content. Publishing helpful, original content from experts, using proper structured data, and applying on-page optimisations also helps search engines understand the site better.

Once search engines have indexed and trusted your content, your website will gain value in search results. Over time, AI tools that rely on public web data and search results are more likely to discover and reference your website.

I hope this answer gives you clarity. If you like to explore the topic in more depth, there are many articles and YouTube videos from experts that you can refer to as well.
