Domain name expired and someone else bought it. what are the options now?

My website’s domain expired, and it looks like another person or company has already bought it. I’m concerned about losing my brand name, SEO rankings, and traffic. What would be the best course of action in this situation?

From my experience, the first thing I would do is check who owns the domain now. If it has been purchased by another person or company, my options depend on how they are using it. I would try contacting the new owner to see if they are willing to sell it at a reasonable price. If the cost is too high, I would consider registering a different domain that is close to my original brand name.

If the domain contains my registered trademark and is being used in bad faith, I would explore filing a domain dispute through the appropriate process, such as the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP). Otherwise, I would focus on rebuilding my online presence with a new domain and update all branding, redirects, and SEO as quickly as possible to reduce the impact. Most importantly, I would make sure auto-renewal is enabled on all important domains to avoid the same situation in the future.
